Elephants, Kilimanjaro & the Kenya Safari You’ll Never Forget
Picture this: it’s just past dawn, the plains are still cool and quiet, and a herd of elephants is moving slowly across the grassland in front of you — with the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising directly behind them. This is the moment Amboseli National Park is famous for, and it’s exactly what our 3 Days Amboseli Safari is built around.
Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most accessible and rewarding safari destinations, just a comfortable drive from Nairobi, yet home to some of the densest elephant populations in Africa, four of the Big Five, and one of the most photographed landscapes on the continent. Over three days, you’ll enjoy multiple game drives across the park’s swamps and open plains, a chance to interact with the local Maasai community, and evenings spent watching the sun set behind Africa’s tallest mountain.
Whether you’re a first-time safari traveler, a family looking for an easy, high-reward getaway, or a couple wanting a short but unforgettable escape, this itinerary is designed to give you the very best of Amboseli without needing a week off work. At Rent A Driver Kenya, we take care of the driving, the routing, and the logistics with an experienced local driver-guide, so all you need to do is enjoy the ride.

Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your driver-guide will pick you up early from your Nairobi hotel or the airport for the scenic drive south toward Amboseli, traveling via Emali along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway before turning off toward the park. Along the way, you’ll pass through classic Kenyan countryside and Maasai settlements, with your first views of Kilimanjaro appearing on the horizon as you approach the park gate.

After checking in and a light lunch at your lodge or tented camp, head out for your first afternoon game drive. Amboseli’s flat, open terrain and permanent swamps mean wildlife sightings start almost immediately — expect to see elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and possibly your first lions of the trip. As the light softens toward evening, we’ll aim to position you near the swamp edges, where elephant activity tends to peak.
Overnight at your chosen lodge or camp inside or just outside the park.
Day 2: Full Day Amboseli Game Drives & Maasai Cultural Visit
This is your full immersion day in Amboseli. We’ll head out early — around 6 a.m. — while the skies are clearest for that iconic elephants-and-Kilimanjaro photograph, before clouds typically build around the peak later in the morning.

The morning game drive will take you deeper into the park, tracking through the marshes of Enkongo Narok and Ol Okenya, where hippos, waterbirds, and large elephant herds gather. You’ll also stop at Observation Hill, one of the few places in the park where you can step out of the vehicle for panoramic views across the plains, swamps, and Kilimanjaro beyond.

After a midday break back at camp, the afternoon includes a visit to a nearby Maasai boma (village), where you’ll learn about traditional cattle-herding culture, beadwork, and how local communities coexist with the park’s wildlife. As the sun begins to set, we’ll head back out for a final evening game drive, closing the day with the option of sundowner drinks out on the plains as Kilimanjaro turns gold in the fading light.
Overnight at your lodge or camp.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Return to Nairobi
Rise early for one last game drive before breakfast — mornings often bring the most active wildlife, and it’s your final chance to catch predators like lions or cheetahs before the heat of the day sets in. After breakfast and check-out, we’ll begin the drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon in time for onward flights or an evening at leisure in the city.
